Why working in the video game industry sucks

Because there tend to be lots of layoffs. Like me. Today. Well, maybe this is my chance to once again try and use my new found contacts to get film work and such.

SUCKS! Adam Dorsey is a game tester for Nintendo, and every couple of months he gets laid off for a few weeks. Then they hire him back. Any possibility of that?
If you need a part time gig, I may be able to help you out. It’s web based, about Google, and I know the guy that does the hiring. http://undocumentedgoogle.wetpaint.com/

Aww, poop! And also a tentative yay, in hopes that this leads to some freelance wonderfulness. (Also, wetpaint is great to work for, so you should definitely hook up with Katherine om that.)

Well, that brief period of contentment lasted 6 whole months. Our little bubble burst yesterday when Heath got laid off. I just wanted our job-application treadmill to be over, one day, and this brings it home that it never will…

I’ve read some articles over the years about the gaming industry. They always seem to end in “…and then the company folded and everyone lost their jobs…” or “…and then the company finished the best selling game and everyone lost their jobs…” and sometimes just “…and then the game was cancelled and everyone lost their jobs…”

    Crap! I’m really sorry.
